The 18th season of The Bachelor premiered on January 5, 2014. The season featured 32-year-old Juan Pablo Galavis, a former Venezuelan professional soccer player.

The season re-aired in a shortened version on September 7, 2020, as a part of The Bachelor: The Greatest Seasons - Ever!.

Galavis was rejected on the 9th season of The Bachelorette by Desiree Hartsock.

He is the first Hispanic bachelor.

He ultimately chose Nikki Ferrell, but did not propose.

Filming and development[]

Casting[]

Casting began during the airing of the 17th season of The Bachelor. Galavis was instantly chosen during the season finale of The Bachelorette.

Production[]

The season travelled to locales including Utah, South Korea, Vietnam, New Zealand, Florida, and Saint Lucia. With performances such as 2NE1, Romeo Santos, and Josh Krajcik.

The season began with 27 contestants.

Future appearances[]

Andi Dorfman was chosen as the bachelorette for the 10th season of The Bachelorette.

Runner-up Clare Crawley, along with night one eliminee Lacy Faddoul with other finalists Christy Hansen, Elise Mosca, Danielle Ronco and Lucy Aragon later competed in the 1st season of Bachelor in Paradise. Mosca and Crawley quit in 20th/21st and 16th, respectively. While Ronco, Aragon and Hansen finished the competition in 19th, 15th and 7th/12th. Faddoul finished as co-winner with Bachelor Nation alumnus Marcus Grodd.

Crawley returned to compete again on the 2nd season of Bachelor in Paradise, along with finalists Cassandra Ferguson and Chelsie Webster. Crawley was eliminated in 23/24th place, Webster was eliminated in 11th/14th, and Ferguson finished as co-winner with Bachelor Nation alumnus Justin Reich.

Clare Crawley returned for The Bachelor Winter Games. She quit in week three.

Clare Crawley was chosen as the lead of the 16th season of The Bachelorette.

In the opener, Juan Pablo chats with former bachelor Sean Lowe before meeting 27 female contenters, including a nurse, a hippie, a salsa dancer and a pregnant woman. After the rose ceremony, nine women are sent home.
2 "Week 2" January 13, 2014
Thirteen of the remaining 18 women go on a group date involving a charity photo shoot. In addition, Juan Pablo goes on several one-on-one dates, including a winter-wonderland-theme evening and a visit to Utah for the Electric Run 5K. At the rose ceremony, the playing field is reduced to 15 bachelorettes.
3 "Week 3" January 20, 2014
Ten of the remaining 15 women go on a group soccer outing with Juan Pablo. Also: Several individual dates are featured, including one involving a tricked-out jeep and another featuring a tandem bungee jump in Pasadena, Cal. Thirteen women remain after the rose ceremony.
4 "Week 4: Seoul" January 27, 2014
Juan Pablo and the 13 remaining bachelorettes travel to Seoul, South Korea, where six of the women go on a group date involving karaoke and a boat tour. Also: The ladies learn a choreographed dance to be performed at a live concert. Eleven contenders remain after the rose ceremony.
5 "Week 5: Vietnam" February 3, 2014
Juan Pablo and the 11 remaining women head to Vietnam, where they embark on a bamboo boat ride, harvest herbs and share a meal with a traditional Vietnamese family. Meanwhile, one-on-one dates include a visit to the city of Hoi An and a trip to Marble Mountain. Eight women are selected to continue at the rose ceremony.
6 "Week 6: New Zealand" February 10, 2014
The eight remaining bachelorettes join Juan Pablo on a visit to New Zealand, where six of them try out a local extreme sport during a group date. Also: A one-on-one date involves a speedboat ride through the Tutukau Gorge. At the rose ceremony, the playing field is reduced to six ladies.
7 "Week 7: Miami" February 17, 2014
The remaining six contenders visit Miami, Juan Pablo's hometown, where four of the ladies enjoy a group date on a private island. Elsewhere, a one-on-one date involves an excursion on a luxury yacht, and a bachelorette meets Juan Pablo's daughter at her dance recital. Five women remain after the rose ceremony.
8 "Week 8. pt. 1: Hometowns" February 24, 2014
Part 1 of 2. Juan Pablo visits the hometowns of the four remaining ladies and meets their families. The dates include a mechanical bull ride and a visit to a gun range. Meanwhile, one bachelorette speaks her mind and another shares a personal story, and a family member gets confrontational. Back in Miami, one woman is eliminated at the rose ceremony.
9 "Week 8, pt 2: St. Lucia" February 25, 2014
Conclusion. The three remaining bachelorettes join Juan Pablo on a trip to St. Lucia. One-on-one dates include an excursion on a luxury yacht, a visit to Latille Falls and a horseback-riding adventure. Meanwhile, a contender pays a surprise visit, leading to an explosive situation.
10 "The Women Tell All" March 3, 2014
Juan Pablo faces 17 of the season's bachelorettes, including Sharleen, who explains the reasons behind her conflicted feelings and her decision to leave. Another bachelorette shares details about St. Lucia; and newlyweds Sean and Catherine visit to talk about married life. Also: bloopers from the season; a look ahead to the finale.
11 "Finale" March 10, 2014
In the Season 18 finale, Juan Pablo must choose which of the two remaining bachelorettes is the perfect fit for himself and his daughter. Before he does so, he introduces the women to his family and goes on a final date with both ladies. Appearing: bachelorettes Chelsie, Kelly, Renee and Sharleen; Sean and Catherine Lowe; and Desiree Hartsock and Chris Siegfried.
12 "After the Final Rose" March 10, 2014
Juan Pablo recaps the season in an interview with Chris Harrison. Also: The final two bachelorettes discuss the outcome of the show; and the next star of "The Bachelorette" is announced.

Where are they now?[]

Juan Pablo did not propose to Nikki, but instead they decided to continue their relationship. They later appeared on Couples Therapy. In October 2014, they decided to end their relationship after months of fighting.

Nikki married longtime friend Tyler Vanloo on October 8, 2016.

In August 2017, Juan Pablo married Venezuelan model Osmariel Villalobos.

Andi got engaged to Josh Murray on the 10th season of The Bachelorette. The couple broke up less than a year later.

Lacy Faddoul met Marcus Grodd from the 10th season of The Bachelorette on the 1st season of Bachelor in Paradise. They were wed by Chris Harrison on the season premiere of the 2nd season of Bachelor in Paradise. On June 16, 2016, Marcus confirmed to E! News, that he and Lacy are no longer together and that they never were legally married, because their wedding took place in Mexico.

Renee Oteri is now married to Bruce Maynard and they have two sons together, Jaxon and Alex Jay.

Sharleen Joynt got engaged to Andy Levine in 2015. They were married on September 18, 2017.

Clare Crawley got engaged to Benoit Beauséjour-Savard whom she met on The Bachelor Winter Games. They announced their split on April 6, 2018. Clare has since been announced as the Bachelorette for season 16 of The Bachelorette.

Cassandra Ferguson dated Justin Reich whom she met on the 2nd season of Bachelor in Paradise. They broke up shortly after. She also dated Jonathan Holloway from the 2nd season of Bachelor in Paradise. They have since broken up.
