The 17th season of The Bachelor premiered on January 7, 2013. The season featured 28-year-old Sean Lowe, a former Kansas State football player from McKinney, Texas.

The season re-aired in a shortened version on June 8, 2020, as a part of The Bachelor: The Greatest Seasons - Ever!.

Lowe placed third as a contestant during the 8th season of The Bachelorette with Emily Maynard.

He ultimately chose to propose to Catherine Giudici.

Filming and development[]

Casting[]

Casting began during the airing of the 16th season of The Bachelor. First the show approached Tim Tebow, then-quarterback of the Denver Broncos; but he never signed an agreement. Lamar Hurd, a sportscaster from Portland, Oregon, had been another potential candidate, vying to become the first African-American Bachelor. Other rumored possible candidates included The Bachelorette season 6 winner Roberto Martinez, Lowe's fellow The Bachelorette castmate Arie Luyendyk, Jr. (runner-up from Maynard's season), and eleven-time Olympic medalist Ryan Lochte. Luyendyk dropped out to focus on his racing career. Martinez and Lochte also declined.

Production[]

This season traveled many places including Montana, the Canadian province of Alberta, St. Croix in the United States Virgin Islands and Thailand. Appearances including Ben Taylor, Eli Young Band and Sarah Darling.

Contestants[]

This season has been the first time the official website listed 24 new contestants along with one contestant from Bachelor Pad who joined the others, for a total of 25 suitors. In addition to the 25 new contestants, the premiere revealed one mystery woman, bringing the total to 26.

  • NOTES
    • Paige Vigil, a "superfan" from the 3rd season of Bachelor Pad is included in the list.
    • In addition to 25 other women, Kacie Boguskie, competes this season. Boguskie competed in Ben Flanjnik's season of The Bachelor and finished fourth. Boguskie had met and befriended Lowe outside of the show and host Chris Harrison invited her back for a shot via a meet-and-greet with the bachelor—after the 25 ladies arrived at the mansion.

Future appearances[]

Fourth place finalist Desiree Hartsock was later chosen as the star of the 9th season of The Bachelorette.

AshLee Frazier, Daniella McBride, Jackie Parr and Sarah Herron returned for the 1st season of Bachelor in Paradise. McBride, finished 24th, while Frazier and Parr also finished 7th/12th individually and Herron ended in 5th/6th.

Sarah Herron ended up returning for the 3rd season of Bachelor in Paradise, and was eliminated in week 3.

Lesley Murphy participated in The Bachelor Winter Games. She was finished co-runner-up.

Spurned Dallas businessman Sean Lowe seeks a second chance at love as the matchmaking contest's Season 17 bachelor. In the opener, Sean chats with fellow "Bachelorette" alum Arie Luyendyk Jr. before arriving at the mansion to meet 26 female contenders at the first cocktail party. After the rose ceremony, seven of the women are sent home.
2 "Week 2" January 14, 2013
The 19 survivors of the opening ceremony move into the mansion. Sean goes on his first one-on-one date, which involves a free fall off a Los Angeles skyscraper; and later, a group date involving a Harlequin photo shoot takes place. At the rose ceremony, the playing field is reduced to 16 contenders.
3 "Week 3" January 21, 2013
Sean takes the ladies to Malibu for a game of beach volleyball, after which the winners spend the evening with him and the losers return to the mansion. Elsewhere, one of his romantic encounters has the potential to break a world record for the longest on-screen kiss. Thirteen women remain after the rose ceremony.
4 "Week 4" January 28, 2013
Sean plays roller derby with eight of the 13 remaining contenders, but one woman takes a spill and ends up in the hospital with a swollen jaw. Elsewhere, Sean's private dates include a rock-climbing adventure at the Joshua Tree National Park, a dinner at a trailer park and a shopping spree on Rodeo Drive. Eleven women remain after the rose ceremony.
5 "Week 5: Whitefish" February 4, 2013
Sean takes the 11 remaining bachelorettes to Whitefish, Mont., where eight compete in a relay race and Sean takes one woman on a helicopter ride over Glacier National Park and then to a concert. Also: Drama erupts after the group date; and Sean goes on a two-on-one date involving a horseback ride. At the rose ceremony, the playing field is reduced to nine.
6 "Week 6: Canadian Rockies" February 5, 2013
Sean and the nine remaining bachelorettes head to the Canadian Rockies, where seven of the ladies take an ice-cold dip in Lake Louise. Elsewhere, adventurous one-on-one encounters unfold, including a monster-snow-truck ride on a glacier and a date that involves rappelling down a cliff. Three women are sent home after the rose ceremony.
7 "Week 7: St. Croix" February 11, 2013
Sean and the six remaining bachelorettes visit the Caribbean island of St. Croix. While there, one woman reveals a surprising fact about her past that could ruin her relationship with Sean. Later, Sean's sister arrives to help him sort through his feelings. Two women are eliminated.
8 "Week 8: Hometowns" February 18, 2013
Sean visits the hometowns of the final four bachelorettes. One woman is eliminated.
9 "Week 9: Thailand" February 25, 2013
Sean and the remaining three bachelorettes go to Thailand for exotic one-on-one dates. In addition, the ladies have the opportunity to give up their individual rooms for a chance at an intimate overnight encounter. The playing field is reduced to the final two contenders at the rose ceremony.
10 "The Women Tell All" March 4, 2013
Sarah and Tierra are among the rejected bachelorettes who confront each other and Sean. Also: Sean and Chris Harrison review the season and look ahead to the finale.
11 "Finale" March 11, 2013
In the Season 17 finale, Sean must choose between the two remaining bachelorettes. Before he does so, he introduces them to his family, goes on a final date with both women and deals with a game-changing surprise..
12 "After the Final Rose" March 11, 2013
There is a live viewing After the Final Rose party after the two-hour finale, and the first The Bachelor season of the live After the Rose Finale telecast since its introduction in 2002. Unlike previous seasons, the past After the Final Rose specials were taped.

Before the introduction of the newly-engaged couple, Lindsay comes out for an interview after a break up with Sean, learned on her experiences the time of the show and accepts on a faith in the process of her heartbreak that torn herself apart. Next, Catherine is in the hot seat and sees wearing an engagement ring discuss with huge feelings on Sean that developed their relationship with Sean started on their first date in Canada as grew steadily fast that made incredibly best friends.

Then, Sean appears in the studio audience and reunites with Catherine to see themselves together for the first time in public, as the two would be settling on for their marriage. Sean later announced the wedding would be aired on TV screens nationwide, whereas Catherine thinks that doesn't have a potential wedding date and must wait in a period of time. The two are made happily ever after to start their new lives together. Towards the end of the episode, and it was announced Desiree will be the next Bachelorette.

Where are they now?[]

Lowe and Catherine married on January 26, 2014. On December 8, 2015, the Lowes announced via Instagram that they are expecting their first child. On July 2, 2016, the couple welcomed their son, Samuel Thomas. On November 3, 2017, they announced that they are expecting their second child. Their second son, Isaiah Hendrix, was born on May 18, 2018. On June 19, 2019, they announced that they are expecting their third child. Their daughter, Mia Mejia, was born on December 23, 2019.

Desiree Hartsock is married to Chris Siegfried whom she met on the 9th season of The Bachelorette. On April 27, 2016, they announced that they were expecting their first child, a boy. They welcomed their son, Asher Wrigley, on October 19, 2016. On July 18, 2018, they announced that they were expecting their second child, another boy. Their second son, Zander Cruz, was born on January 12, 2019.

AshLee Frazier is married to her friend of 10 years Aaron Williams. On March 20, 2018, they announced that they were expecting their first child, a daughter. Their daughter, Navy Lee, was born on September 11, 2018. On April 19, 2020, they announced that they are expecting their second child.

Selma Alameri married Patrick Daniels on December 29, 2016, in a low-key city hall ceremony.

In 2017, Lesley Murphy tested positive for BRCA 2, a breast cancer gene, and later underwent a double mastectomy. She is now cancer free. She dated Dean Unglert whom she met on The Bachelor Winter Games. They broke up in early April 2018. She began dating Alex Kav in late 2017. They got engaged on February 4, 2020.

Kacie Boguskie is married to Rusty Gastom whom she met in 2012. She now goes by the name Kacie Boguskie Gaston. They have a son, Ranger, and a daughter, Everly Sue.
